As the UAE approaches the end of its summer season, residents can look forward to cooler temperatures and changing weather patterns. September is expected to mark the final stretch of summer, with nighttime temperatures gradually decreasing and a more noticeable drop anticipated in the latter half of the month.

Autumn Equinox: A Shift in Seasons

The autumn equinox is set to occur on September 23, marking a significant seasonal change. On this day, the Sun will be directly aligned with the equator, resulting in nearly equal day and night lengths across the northern and southern hemispheres. In the UAE, this balance between day and night will be observed a few days after the equinox.

Rain and Thunderstorms on the Horizon

According to the National Centre of Meteorology, residents can expect rain and thunderstorms in various parts of the country throughout September. These weather conditions are linked to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds, particularly in the eastern regions. The rain may also extend to internal areas, varying in intensity.

Wind, Dust, and Visibility Challenges

Fresh winds are also forecasted, which may occasionally bring dust, leading to reduced visibility. These conditions are attributed to the gradual weakening of the Indian monsoon depression and the desert thermal lows over the Arabian Peninsula.

Rising Humidity and Fog Formation

As September progresses, humidity levels are expected to rise compared to August, especially during the latter part of the month. This increase in humidity will raise the likelihood of fog and mist formation in certain areas, with relative humidity expected to settle around 49%.

Transition from Summer to Cooler Days

The sighting of the Suhail star, also known as the "Star of Yemen," on August 24, signaled the end of peak summer. This event marks the beginning of a 40-day transitional period, known as "Sufriya," where the weather gradually shifts from intense heat to cooler temperatures.

By mid-October, the weather is expected to stabilize, entering a period known as "Wasm," which leads into the cool winter season. Winter is anticipated to begin roughly 100 days after the rise of the Suhail star.

As the UAE bids farewell to summer, the upcoming weeks promise a mix of weather conditions, setting the stage for a more comfortable and cooler season ahead.
