The UAE has intensified its efforts to combat dengue fever by establishing nine specialized teams, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced on Wednesday. This initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to tackle the spread of dengue fever across the nation.

In response to a query from the Federal National Council (FNC) regarding the measures taken to combat dengue fever, MoHAP detailed the steps being implemented. The government has created nine specialized teams dedicated to eliminating mosquito breeding sites and controlling the spread of the virus. These teams have successfully eradicated 409 mosquito breeding sites and have conducted 1,200 surveys in collaboration with local authorities.

Additionally, an insect laboratory has been established to support these efforts. The Ministry highlighted that there are approximately 134 health facilities equipped to provide appropriate health and treatment services for dengue fever patients.

Understanding Dengue Fever

Dengue fever is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes, particularly prevalent in tropical and subtropical climates. According to the World Health Organization, most people infected with dengue do not exhibit symptoms. However, for those who do, common symptoms include high fever, headache, body aches, nausea, and rash. While most patients recover within one to two weeks, some cases can develop into severe dengue, requiring hospitalization. Symptoms typically appear four to ten days after infection and last for two to seven days.

Government Measures and Preparations

FNC Member Waleed Ali Falah Al Mansouri inquired about the preparations and measures taken by the Ministry to prevent the spread of dengue fever and treat affected individuals. In response, MoHAP emphasized its coordinated efforts with relevant authorities to prevent dengue fever, limit its spread, and provide effective treatment.

Through these initiatives, the UAE aims to safeguard public health and effectively manage the risks associated with dengue fever. The establishment of specialized teams and the provision of extensive health facilities underscore the government's commitment to protecting its citizens and residents from this viral infection.
