In a move to safeguard Dubai's rich heritage, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai, has unveiled the next phase of a significant project dedicated to preserving the city's historical legacy.

The upcoming phase of this initiative will focus on the conservation of 35 iconic areas, sites, and buildings that date back to the era spanning from the 1960s to the 1990s. Among these treasures are landmarks like the Jumeirah Zoo, Clock Tower, Rashid Tower, Dubai Petroleum building, Terminal 1 at Dubai International Airport, Dubai Municipality's main building, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Palace - Za'abeel, the Dubai Land Department building, and the Dubai Courts building.

Speaking on the importance of this endeavor, Sheikh Hamdan emphasized, "We have a responsibility to celebrate our history and protect our architectural treasures for future generations." His sentiments were echoed in a statement released by the Dubai Government Media Office, highlighting the project's aim to bridge the past with the future aspirations of Dubai.

The project's overarching goal is to foster cultural continuity and showcase Dubai's historical journey, from its local heritage to its global interactions. The first phase of the project, which covered 17 archaeological sites, 14 historical areas, and 741 buildings, laid the foundation for this monumental effort.

Now, with the second phase, an additional 35 heritage sites and buildings are slated for restoration, bringing the total to an impressive 807 sites. Dawoud Al Hajri, the director general of Dubai Municipality, underscored the significance of this phase, stating, "The sites and buildings included in the second phase of the project represent a significant era in Dubai's history."

The initiative doesn't just stop at preservation; it aims to share this rich heritage with future generations, ensuring that the historical, cultural, social, and economic transformations that have shaped Dubai are vividly documented and celebrated.

The areas selected for preservation in this phase reflect Dubai's more recent architectural history, telling a compelling story of the emirate's evolution and its impact on the global stage. From the bustling Al Shindagha Heritage District to the vibrant Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, each site encapsulates a chapter of Dubai's narrative.

Dubai Municipality's dedication to documenting and protecting these structures underscores its commitment to honoring the past while embracing the future. As these preservation efforts continue, Dubai's heritage remains not just a memory but a living testament to the city's enduring legacy.
