How to Apply for a UAE Health Card: Eligibility, Requirements, and Step-by-Step Guide

With this lifestyle, maintaining good health is essential, and having health insurance brings peace of mind. Whether you're covered by employer-provided insurance or not, UAE citizens and residents have an additional option – applying for a health card.
Issued by Emirates Health Services (EHS), the health card provides access to affordable healthcare services at government hospitals, offering added financial relief. With an EHS health card, you can receive a 20% discount on all services. Additionally, People of Determination (PoD) can access all EHS services for free.

Requirements
The required documents depend on your category. Below are the details for different applicants:
For People of Determination (PoD):
- A medical report from a government facility issued within the last three months
- Passport
- Emirates ID
For UAE residents:
- A valid Emirates ID
For UAE citizens:
- Emirates ID
- Copy of the Family Book (for citizens only)
Validity of the Health Card
- For UAE and GCC nationals, the health card is valid for five years.
- For UAE residents, the health card is valid for one year.
Fees
The fees for applying for a health card vary depending on your status:
- People of Determination (PoD): Dh50
- UAE citizens: Dh50
- Expats: Dh100 for the health card and an additional Dh15 for the EHS application form.
How to Apply for a Health Card
You can apply for a health card online through the Emirates Health Services website or via the EHS app. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:
Applying via the EHS Website
- Visit ehs.gov.ae.
- Click on 'Patient Services'.
- Select 'Issue of a Health Card' and click 'Start Now'.
- Log in using your UAE Pass.
- Confirm the authentication request on your phone.
- Select your healthcare category based on your nationality.
- Click 'Apply'.
- Indicate if you’re applying for yourself or on someone else’s behalf.
- In the 'Application Type' tab, select 'New'.
- Under 'Identification Document', scan your Emirates ID or manually enter the details.
- Fill out the necessary application details in the 'Health Centre Information' box.
- Click 'Proceed' to move on to the payment section.
- Once the payment is approved, you will receive a confirmation via SMS.
- Upon approval, your EHS health card will automatically be linked to your Emirates ID.
Applying via the EHS App
- Download the EHS app on your smartphone.
- Log in with your UAE Pass.
- Tap on 'Services', then select 'Issue of a Health Card'.
- Choose 'Apply for Service' and tap 'Register New Account'.
- Complete the steps to finalize your application.
