Google is gearing up to relaunch its Gemini AI image generation tool in the coming weeks after temporarily pausing it due to inaccuracies in historical depictions. Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, announced this plan on Monday during a panel at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Alphabet's Google recently introduced image generation capabilities through its Gemini AI models. However, users raised concerns on social media about inaccuracies, particularly in historical images.

"We have taken the feature offline while we fix that. We are hoping to have that back online very shortly in the next couple of weeks, few weeks," stated Hassabis, acknowledging that the tool did not perform as intended.

This move comes amidst Google's efforts to compete with Microsoft-backed OpenAI, especially since the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT in November 2022.

Google had previously faced criticism when its generative AI chatbot, Bard, shared inaccurate information about celestial bodies in a promotional video, resulting in a decline in Google's shares. Bard has since been rebranded as Gemini, with Google introducing paid subscription plans for users seeking enhanced reasoning capabilities from the AI model.

The relaunch of Gemini reflects Google's commitment to improving its AI technologies and addressing user concerns to deliver more accurate and reliable results.
