Global Outages Caused by Crowdstrike Technical Glitch
Major airlines, banks, and government agencies around the world experienced outages on Friday due to a technical glitch with Crowdstrike cybersecurity software. The UAE's Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) advised users to avoid Crowdstrike software updates until the issue is resolved.
Crowdstrike, a US-based cybersecurity firm, acknowledged the problem and said it was investigating reports of a Windows vulnerability on one of its servers. The glitch affected Crowdstrike's Falcon sensor, which is designed to detect and prevent cyberattacks.
The outages caused disruptions in various sectors, including:
Airlines: Passengers faced potential delays as airports in Spain experienced a "computer incident." Ryanair, Europe's largest airline, warned of disruptions for all airlines in its network.
Banks and Telecoms: Australian media reported outages affecting banks and telecommunication companies, which the government linked to the Crowdstrike issue.
It is important to note that there is no evidence that the outage was caused by a cyberattack. While the exact cause of the widespread disruptions remains unclear, authorities are investigating the possibility that other issues besides the Crowdstrike glitch may have been involved.
