The much-anticipated launch of the unified GCC tourist visa system is on track to be completed by the end of 2024, according to Khalid Jasim Al Midfa from the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Authority (SCTDA). This announcement came during the Arabian Travel Market, where Al Midfa highlighted the collaborative efforts of regional countries to streamline the visa process for tourists visiting the Gulf region.

"By the end of this year, the whole system will be in place," Al Midfa stated. "We are working day and night, and e-service is a vital part of it. We aim to provide a seamless experience for travelers while maintaining high-security standards. This initiative will not only simplify travel but also boost regional economies."

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE’s Minister of Economy, revealed that the unified tourist visas will be known as GCC Grand Tours. These visas will allow tourists to stay in any of the six GCC countries for more than 30 days, making travel to the region more accessible and cost-effective.

"The introduction of GCC Grand Tours will showcase the diverse tourism offerings in GCC countries," Al Marri commented. "It will attract longer stays from tourists, leading to increased hotel bookings and positioning the region as a premier destination for both regional and international travelers."

In preparation for the visa launch, collaborations with major tourist operators and companies are underway to develop comprehensive tour packages covering the entire Gulf region. Al Midfa emphasized ongoing discussions with hotels and airlines to establish partnerships that enhance the overall tourist experience.

"We work closely with the private sector to create a conducive environment for business," Al Midfa noted. "Once the single tourist visa is implemented, companies will roll out combined packages seamlessly."

The unified tourism approach aims to extend visitor stays in the UAE and across the GCC. "Our goal is to offer leisure travelers multi-week packages within the GCC," Al Midfa explained. "Aligning major events will ensure a well-coordinated and enjoyable travel experience without overlaps."

Sarah Buhijji, CEO of Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, shared insights into Bahrain's efforts to promote regional tourism packages. "We are collaborating with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries to offer cohesive travel experiences," Buhijji said. "Visitors can explore multiple countries within a single trip, showcasing the region's collective attractions."

The upcoming launch of GCC Grand Tours signifies a significant milestone in Gulf tourism, promising enhanced accessibility, diverse experiences, and seamless travel across the region.
