The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has announced an exciting development in the realm of space exploration. Shareef Al Romaithi, an Emirati pilot with extensive experience in the airline industry, has been selected to take part in the next phase of a NASA simulation aimed at replicating the conditions of a mission to Mars.

Scheduled to commence on May 10, this project involves analogue astronauts living in a specially designed facility in Houston, Texas, to test the effects of space flight on the human mind and body. Al Romaithi, along with other crew members, will spend 45 days immersed in this simulated Mars mission as part of the Human Exploration Research Analogue (Hera) project.

Salem Al Marri, the director general of MBRSC, expressed enthusiasm about Al Romaithi's selection, highlighting the collaboration with NASA and the scientific insights gained from these simulations. He emphasized the importance of understanding the physiological and psychological challenges of long-duration space travel, a crucial step towards humanity's goal of exploring Mars and beyond.

The Hera facility, a three-story habitat designed to mimic the isolation and remote conditions of space exploration, will host Al Romaithi and his fellow crew members for this immersive experience. This mission marks the UAE's continued commitment to space exploration and its vision of inspiring future generations to be part of the space sector.

The involvement of Emirati universities in conducting six experiments adds another dimension to this project, showcasing the country's dedication to scientific research and innovation in space exploration.

Stay tuned for updates on Al Romaithi's journey as he embarks on this remarkable adventure, contributing to humanity's quest to unlock the mysteries of the Red Planet.
