Etihad Rail's Maiden Passenger Journey Cuts Abu Dhabi to Dubai Travel Time to 50 Minutes
In a significant leap towards enhancing transportation connectivity in the UAE, Etihad Rail successfully conducted its inaugural passenger journey between Abu Dhabi and Al Dhannah on January 25. This milestone marks the fruition of a strategic collaboration between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Etihad Rail.
The journey, which took just 50 minutes, heralds a promising future for train travel across the Emirates. While initially catering to ADNOC’s personnel and contractors, the eventual expansion of Etihad Rail's passenger network aims to interlink all seven emirates, promising unprecedented convenience and efficiency for travelers.
Etihad Rail has been operating freight train services since 2023, marking a significant milestone in the country's transportation infrastructure. The network expansion spans an impressive 900 kilometers, seamlessly connecting major maritime ports and industrial zones across the Emirates. From Ghuweifat on the Saudi Arabia border to Fujairah on the eastern coast, the network integrates key hubs including Khalifa Port, Jebel Ali Port, Port of Fujairah, Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD), Al Ruwais, and Ghuweifat.
As the UAE continues to bolster its transportation infrastructure, Etihad Rail's passenger network promises to redefine travel within the Emirates, ushering in an era of efficiency and connectivity. While official dates for full passenger operations are yet to be announced, the successful maiden journey signifies a promising step towards a more interconnected future.
