Emirates ID Renewal: A Timely Matter
Residents in the UAE are reminded of the importance of keeping their Emirates ID cards up-to-date. Failure to renew the ID within 30 days of expiration can result in daily fines of Dh20, accumulating to a maximum of Dh1,000.
Why is Emirates ID Crucial?
The Emirates ID is a mandatory identification document for all citizens and expatriates residing in the UAE. It's essential for accessing various government and private services, including banking, healthcare, and telecommunications.
Penalties for Emirates ID Violations
Beyond the late renewal fines, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) has outlined 14 violations related to Emirates ID and UAE visa services. These violations can attract penalties ranging from Dh20 per day to a hefty Dh20,000.
Some of the major violations and their corresponding fines include:
- Residency and Foreign Affairs Violations: Dh500 fine for errors like incorrect data entry, expired representative cards, etc.
- System Misuse and Obstruction: Dh5,000 fine for actions like system misuse or obstructing ICP employees.
- False Information and Visa Issuance to Non-existent Companies: Dh3,000 and Dh20,000 fines respectively.
Exemptions from Late Renewal Fines
While timely renewal is crucial, there are certain circumstances under which individuals might be eligible for exemptions from late renewal fines. These include:
- Long-term stays outside the UAE
- Deportation
- Individuals with disabilities or those above 70 years of age
- Diplomatic staff and their dependents
- System errors
