Dubai: The Emirates Group is pushing the boundaries of aviation technology by exploring advanced robotics and extended reality (XR) solutions to future-proof its offerings. From AI co-piloted aircraft to VR cabin crew training, the group is investing in innovations poised to revolutionize the industry.

Embracing Advanced Technologies

The Emirates Group’s strategy includes:

  • AI Co-piloting: Utilizing artificial intelligence to assist in piloting aircraft.
  • Robotic Payload Delivery: Employing robots for delivering heavy payloads.
  • Virtual Reality Training: Using virtual reality for immersive cabin crew and aviation engineer training.
  • Biometric Payments: Implementing biometrics for seamless payments at retail outlets.

A Decade-Long Innovation Strategy

Emirates Group has a decade-long strategy to scale these innovations across its subsidiaries, such as SkyCargo and dnata. After achieving Proof of Concept (POC) status, trials are conducted in collaboration with tech firms and startups. Senior officials anticipate these advancements will eventually integrate into the broader aviation and travel sectors.

Showcasing at ForsaTEK

These innovations were highlighted at the group's annual innovation platform, ForsaTEK, which returned to Dubai for its second edition on June 6. The event, opened by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, along with Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi, UAE’s Minister of State for Youth and the first Arab to perform a spacewalk, showcased the group's latest technological advancements.

Sheikh Ahmed emphasized the importance of collaboration with government entities, tech partners, startups, and industry leaders to drive innovation in the aviation sector.
