Dubai is the first city in the Middle East to be listed in the top ten of the Global Power City Index for 2023.
Dubai has achieved a notable milestone by securing a position among the top 10 cities in the prestigious Global Power City Index (GPCI) 2023, a globally recognized ranking issued by the Mori Memorial Foundation’s Institute for Urban Strategies in Japan. This recognition marks Dubai as the first city in the Middle East to achieve such global acclaim. In the latest index, which evaluates major cities based on their "magnetism" or their ability to attract people, capital, and enterprises, Dubai rose three places to secure the eighth position overall. This accomplishment solidifies Dubai's status as a leading global city, driven by visionary leadership and the collective determination of its residents.
Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, commented on Dubai's progress in the Global Power City Index 2023. He highlighted that this achievement reflects the dedicated efforts to realize the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized Dubai's commitment to becoming the world's premier city to work and live in, underscoring the limitless ambitions of the city.
Congratulating Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid on Dubai's historic achievement as the first Middle Eastern city in the prestigious list, Sheikh Hamdan expressed confidence in Dubai's ability to set global standards and milestones. He credited Dubai's excellence to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's visionary leadership, propelling the city towards leadership and excellence.
Sheikh Hamdan urged both the private and public sectors in Dubai to persist in their efforts to establish the city as a sustainable development model, prioritizing the development of people's capabilities and enhancing their quality of life. He highlighted the government's ongoing commitment to achieving further milestones in global competitiveness indicators through modern legislative frameworks and regulatory rules.
Dubai maintained its fourth position for the second consecutive year within the Cultural Interaction parameter, surpassing other major cities. Meanwhile, London, New York, and Paris retained the top three spots in the overall index. This recognition is a testament to Dubai's commitment to enhancing its cultural standing and being a hub for creativity, aligning with its cultural vision to become a global center for culture and a thriving talent hub.
The Global Power City Index (GPCI) is a crucial benchmark for measuring the performance and competitiveness of global cities. Published annually since 2008, it aids governments, businesses, and individuals in making decisions related to investment, immigration, and travel. Dubai's progress in sub-parameters within Cultural Interaction, such as the Number of Foreign Residents and the Number of Luxury Hotel Rooms, reinforces its cultural offering, creative environment, and diverse tourist attractions.
Dubai's success extends to various indicators, including work flexibility, low unemployment rates, city cleanliness, and the hosting of global exhibitions and events. With over 200 nationalities coexisting in a tolerant and welcoming society, Dubai stands as a prominent global city in terms of economies, finance, business, tourism, and as a popular destination for talent and tourists alike.
