Dubai, UAE: The Planning and Development Department - Trakhees, the regulatory authority under the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has announced the groundbreaking issuance of the inaugural license for constructing buildings using 3D printing technology in Dubai.

The pioneering license was awarded to Nakheel for the esteemed Al Furjan Hills project in December 2023. Remarkably, the commencement of construction operations saw the completion of the printing process within a mere 20 days.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, expressed the commitment to implement Decree No. (24) of 2021, issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This decree regulates the use of 3D printing in the construction sector, aligning with Dubai's vision for economic growth, environmental sustainability, and urban development through innovative solutions.

Bin Sulayem emphasized Trakhees' role in promoting 3D printing technology in construction projects, highlighting its collaboration with key entities. He stressed the integration of 3D printing technology as a pivotal step towards fostering innovation, advanced technology, and a knowledge-based economy, in line with Dubai's strategic goals.

Moreover, Bin Sulayem reiterated PCFC's commitment to embracing technological advancements and sustainability practices. He emphasized the eco-friendly nature of 3D printing technology, which significantly reduces the environmental footprint of construction activities compared to traditional methods.

Abdullah Belhoul, CEO of the Planning and Development Department at Trakhees, PCFC, highlighted the revolutionary impact of 3D printing technology on the construction industry. He emphasized its potential to accelerate project completion, enhance precision, and reduce labor costs, thus bolstering Dubai's economy and positioning it as a global leader in architectural engineering.

The article also elaborated on the benefits of 3D printing in construction, including significant reductions in labor costs and construction time, enhanced project efficiency, and meeting the increasing demands of urban development.
