Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled two new cycling tracks in the Khawaneej and Mushrif areas, just in time for the upcoming Ramadan festivities. These tracks, totaling 7 km, seamlessly integrate with existing pathways, bringing the combined length of cycling routes in these neighborhoods to 39 km.

This expansion aligns with the vision of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Chairman of the Executive Council, to transform Dubai into a bicycle-friendly city. Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, emphasized the significance of providing alternatives to encourage cycling, in line with the Dubai Urban Plan 2040.

"The project underscores RTA's commitment to constructing dedicated tracks for walking and cycling across Dubai," said Al Tayer. "By enhancing interconnectivity between existing tracks and key attractions, we aim to promote sports and leisure activities, ultimately enriching the quality of life for residents and visitors alike."

The first track starts at Qur'anic Park, extending along Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street to intersect with Al Khawaneej Street. It then crosses the street via a dedicated bridge for pedestrians and cyclists, seamlessly linking with the existing cycling infrastructure.

Similarly, the second track commences at Mushrif Park, near Crocodile Park, and stretches towards Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. Continuing northward, it intersects with Al Khawaneej Street through another designated bridge, integrating with the cycling network in Al Khawaneej.

RTA's ambitious plan aims to connect key districts across the emirate, with the goal of expanding the total length of cycling tracks from 544 km to 1,000 km by 2030. Coastal areas like Jumeirah, Al Sufouh, and Marina are slated to be linked to external tracks in Al Qudra, Saih Al Salam, and Nad Al Sheba, passing through districts such as Al Barsha, Dubai Hills, and Nad Al Sheba.

With these new tracks, Dubai continues its journey towards fostering a healthier, more active lifestyle while promoting sustainable modes of transportation for its residents and visitors.
