Dubai Enhances Accessibility for Tourists with Special Needs: Free Parking and 50% Taxi Fare Discounts
In a move to prioritize inclusivity, Dubai is offering special privileges for tourists with special needs, also known as People of Determination (PoD). Officials from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Taxi Company (DTC) recently confirmed these initiatives.
Tourists with special needs can now enjoy up to three months of free public parking across Dubai, a benefit similar to what is provided to senior Emiratis and PoD residents. The application process for free parking has been streamlined through RTA's online platform or app, eliminating the need for physical permits. The digital permit services were introduced in August of the previous year, offering convenience and efficiency for PoDs who no longer need to print and display permits.
It's important to note that the free parking privilege for PoD tourists is temporary, limited to three months per application.
Additionally, PoD tourists can avail themselves of a substantial 50% discount on taxi fares across Dubai. Abdullah Ibrahim Al Meer, Acting Chief Business Transformation Officer at DTC, explained that obtaining a Sanad card, issued by the Community Development Authority (CDA), enables PoD tourists to benefit from this taxi fare reduction. This extends beyond dedicated taxis for wheelchair users, now including regular taxis booked through the DTC App.
To secure a Sanad card, PoD tourists need to apply online, providing essential documents such as an e-copy of the visit visa issued by Dubai, passport copy, e-copy of a medical report or disability card from their home country, and a recent photograph. The card's validity is determined by the duration of their visit.
These initiatives align with Dubai's commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible environment, enhancing the overall experience for tourists with special needs.
