Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence Hosts AI Majlis to Drive Government Collaboration and Innovation
The Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI) recently orchestrated a significant gathering, known as the AI Majlis, bringing together representatives from 33 Dubai government entities. The aim was to catalyze collaboration, facilitate knowledge exchange, and spur innovation within the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
This initiative, part of a series of gatherings aimed at leaders in AI adoption within government sectors, delved into global AI trends, emerging opportunities, and strategic approaches that will shape the future of AI adoption in the Government of Dubai. These efforts align closely with the DCAI's overarching objectives.
Established in June 2023 by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, the DCAI aims to position Dubai as a global leader in AI adoption across public sector domains.
During the AI Majlis, His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, underscored the significance of government entities aligning towards common goals through knowledge and experience sharing.
His Excellency remarked, “Government entities must be fully prepared for technological advancements that reshape operations and service provision. Future readiness is pivotal for meeting stakeholder needs and leveraging opportunities arising from rapid AI advancements.”
Key discussions during the AI Majlis emphasized collaboration in formulating legislation and regulatory frameworks conducive to AI integration within government systems. Such frameworks are vital for enhancing flexibility, efficiency, and innovation in service delivery.
Moreover, participants highlighted the importance of fostering a culture of innovation and creativity, particularly among young talents in the AI field. Encouraging individuals to embrace novel ideas fosters an environment where AI can be effectively utilized in governmental operations.
Notably, DCAI recently concluded an accelerator program involving 30 companies from 13 countries, collaborating within AREA 2071. Over eight weeks, these companies developed more than 300 projects addressing over 100 challenges identified by Dubai's government entities.
The Center also revealed plans for 72 collaborative AI projects between government agencies and participating companies, focusing on the future of government and media and communication services sectors.
DCAI's mandate extends to supporting Dubai government entities in leveraging future technologies to enhance readiness. Oversight by entities such as the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Government of Dubai Media Office, and Dubai Digital Authority ensures alignment with strategic goals, including legislation development, adoption strategies, and nurturing national AI talent.
