"Masdar City in Abu Dhabi Leverages Artificial Intelligence for Enhanced Urban Efficiency"

Masdar City, the sustainable research and development hub associated with Abu Dhabi's clean energy firm, Masdar, is making strategic use of artificial intelligence (AI) to propel its smart city ambitions to greater heights. CEO Ahmed Baghoum disclosed that they are swiftly gathering and analyzing data to bolster their smart city agenda, focusing on areas such as water and electricity usage, as well as transportation and mobility.

Speaking at the Envision event in Dubai, hosted by Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du), Baghoum underscored the pivotal role of smart technologies in shaping the future of urban infrastructure. AI, in particular, is instrumental in streamlining processes and automating functions to create more efficient cities where buildings and assets interact seamlessly.

Baghoum emphasized the significance of AI, stating, "AI is playing a significant role today; it's the backbone of any industry. So, for us, AI is undeniably vital in creating smarter and more efficient cities, where workflows run seamlessly through automation."

Masdar City is actively involved in the development of the UAE's pioneering net-zero buildings, powered by solar energy and incorporating cutting-edge technologies. These groundbreaking projects will be officially unveiled during the upcoming Cop28 climate conference in November, hosted by the UAE.

Additionally, Masdar City is a strong advocate for sustainable technology companies, boasting a portfolio that includes over 1,000 enterprises, ranging from major corporations to small and medium-sized businesses. These entities focus on aspects of economic, financial, social, and environmental sustainability. Masdar City serves as an ideal testbed for these technologies, allowing companies to witness the real-world impact of their innovations.

Abu Dhabi has consistently been recognized as a leader in smart city initiatives within the Middle East and North Africa, consistently ranking as the region's smartest city. Its dedication to digital-first initiatives and advancements in information and communications technology has contributed to its ongoing success.

With Dubai also achieving high marks in global smart city rankings, the UAE is well-poised to continue its journey toward full-fledged smart cities, with numerous initiatives aimed at shaping a futuristic digital economy.
