Abu Dhabi Unveils New Signs for Zayed International Airport
Abu Dhabi Municipality, in collaboration with the traffic and patrol services of Abu Dhabi Police, has taken a significant step by unveiling new signs leading to the airport. These signs reflect a momentous change: the renaming of "Abu Dhabi International Airport" to "Zayed International Airport." This change, which will officially come into effect on February 9, 2024, coincides with the grand opening of the airport's impressive new Terminal A.
The decision to rename the airport was made as a tribute to the esteemed legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE and its first president. This directive, issued by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, is a profound gesture of respect and admiration towards his father.
The renaming of the airport symbolizes the enduring legacy of Sheikh Zayed, whose visionary leadership and profound impact on the nation continue to resonate. As the UAE prepares to celebrate its rich heritage and achievements, this renaming serves as a poignant reminder of the values and principles that Sheikh Zayed instilled in the nation.
Furthermore, the unveiling of the new signs coincides with the operational commencement of Terminal A, which has already begun facilitating flights. Terminal A represents a significant advancement in Abu Dhabi's aviation infrastructure, offering enhanced facilities and services to passengers.
The inauguration of Terminal A has already marked a milestone for Abu Dhabi's aviation sector, with the first commercial flight departing on October 31, 2023. Operated by UAE's national airline, Etihad Airways, this flight bound for New Delhi signifies the beginning of a new era in Abu Dhabi's aviation landscape.
Overall, the renaming of Zayed International Airport and the unveiling of new signs not only commemorate the legacy of Sheikh Zayed but also herald a new chapter in Abu Dhabi's journey towards becoming a global aviation hub. This momentous occasion underscores the city's commitment to excellence and innovation in air travel, setting the stage for further growth and development in the years to come.
