Abu Dhabi is adopting environmentally friendly technology to make several of its beaches more accessible to wheelchair users. The Department of Municipalities and Transport, in collaboration with Mubadala, the emirate's sovereign investment arm, is implementing remote control-operated ramps designed by the Greek company Seatrac. These solar-powered tracks are equipped with a chair that allows people with disabilities to independently enjoy the waters, transporting them from the sands to the sea. The innovative Seatrac system, already successful at over 200 beaches in Greece, will be introduced at various Abu Dhabi beaches, including Corniche Public Beach, Corniche Family Beach, Corniche Sahil Beach, Al Bateen Public Beach, and Al Bateen Ladies' Beach. The initiative aligns with the UAE government's broader goals of fostering inclusivity for individuals with disabilities and creating a more accessible society. Homaid Al Shimmari, Mubadala's deputy group chief executive, emphasized the project's alignment with their objectives to enhance living standards and community well-being in the capital. In addition to beach accessibility, the collaborative effort between DMT and Mubadala includes installing twenty-six freshwater drinking fountains at parks in Abu Dhabi to reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles.
